Kenyas' Mp's: A Reflection Of Voters Judgement
Posted on Friday, November 28, 2008 @ 06:19:01 CST by kwpnews

Parliament in session: Degeneration of Public conscious and service

Editorial Commentary:

Kenyan elected representatives have of late been acting in a manner that has astounded many voters. Few people have cared to examine the cause of the rot that has permeated the political system.

What Kenyans are seeing is a reflection of their bad judgment that they had exercised during the Election time.

Kenyans have become political indolent and depend a lot on the opinion of others and charismatic leaders to make decisions of leadership. By abdicating their responsibility of making informed decisions, they have rendered the electoral process bankrupt of ideas and created a vacuum which has seen the arrival of political opportunists.
The ever deepening political debt will not only affect our present state but the future of our children and societies, unless we take the initiative to change. That change, like in America will only come from the people and not the elected representative.
This change which is so vital starts by knowing our rights as voters, understanding what qualities of leadership are most dear to our common good , and making the right decision at election time.
Many of us have at one time or the other fallen sick and had to utilize the services of a medical doctor. At no time did we ponder for even a second to use the services of a cobbler in examining our medical ailments.
Similarly when we need our shoes fixed we will have little reservation in sending them to a cobbler largely because that is what he is trained to do.
Despite the good judgment that we exercise in our other affairs, we have seen it fit to relegate one of our most important function to any person that will appeal to our emotion or services our stomachs in the amount of Ksh. 200 to Ksh. 1000 for a day.
So when the elected representatives refuse to have their Salaries taxed, they are in fact exercising their contractual obligation of recouping their investments dispensed during the campaign period.
Unless Kenyans change the contract we should not expect any new miracles from the MP’s.
There is no scarcity of potential leaders amongst the young people. Many of them have also offered their candidacy to serve our communities, but because they do not have a famous name or the wealth to bribe us, we have overlooked their potential and invested in the current rot that is causing us headaches.
The next election is five years from now, but if we keep discussing qualities of leadership and start identifying potential candidates then we are bound to gather sufficient information to make a good investment in our political leadership.

We can only expect new results with a new kind of leadership and not merely changing individuals as has been the case.
