Posted on Sunday, June 27, 2010 @ 16:52:26 CDT by kwpnews

EMBU - President Mwai Kibaki has appealed to wananchi to unite and pass the Proposed Constitution as it will move the country to the next level in development.

President Kibaki emphasized that was no need to compete and create rivalry as Kenyans agree on most of the contents of the new constitution, adding that the few issues that were still contentious could effectively be addressed after the referendum.

President Kibaki was speaking today at St. Paul's High School, Kevote in Embu during the school's golden jubilee celebrations.

Speaking during the occasion, Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka commended President Kibaki for putting aside personal interests to work towards ensuring that the country gets a new constitution.

On education, the Vice-President said the Proposed Constitution would address the challenges the country is facing in the education sector.

In this regard, he urged Kenyans to speak with one voice in support of the new law.

Reiterating his support for the Proposed Constitution, the Vice-President called on those opposing the constitution not to peddle misinformation using his name.

On her part, Gender Minister Esther Murugi urged women in the country to support the new constitution, saying the proposed supreme law caters for their interests.

Others who spoke during the occasion including Tourism Minister Najib Balala, Public Health Minister Beth Mugo, Education Minister Prof. Sam Ongeri, Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi and Tourism Assistant Minister Cecily Mbarire voiced their support for the new constitution and implored Kenyans not to allow the historic opportunity to give the country a new law pass them.
